Bill Adams, DC
Associate Professor, Radiology
Dr. Bill Adams is an Associate Professor of Radiology at the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College. He was previously on the faculty of the Canadian College of Massage and Hydrotherapy and was later an Adjunct Professor at the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine. After earning an undergraduate degree in Biochemistry from Simon Fraser University, he completed a Doctor of Chiropractic from the Western States Chiropractic College in Portland Oregon.
Dr. Adams’ research focuses on imaging and treatment of spondyloarthropathies and previously has researched imaging of sinusitis. He has contributed articles to the Topics of Diagnostic Radiology Journal. He has just completed his term as Treasurer for the American Chiropractic Board of Radiology and previosuly served on the Delphi Committee for the American Chiropractic Board of Radiology.
Ayla Azad, DC
Tutor, Technique Department
Dr. Ayla Azad is currently a tutor in Applied Chiropractics at the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College and has a private practice at Total Rehab Orthopedic and Athletic Medicine in Ajax, Ontario. She was previously research faculty at the Palmer Center for Chiropractic Research at Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport Iowa. Dr. Azad earned an undergraduate degree in Science at Regents College in New York and completed a Doctor of Chiropractic from Palmer College in Davenport, Iowa.
Dr. Azad’s research focused on chronic pelvic pain in women, low force adjustive procedures, geriatric health care and interdisicplinary health care. She has presented her ideas at the International Conference on Spinal Manipulation, American Public Health Association, Advancements in Chiropractic Conference and the Canadian Council of Women Chiropractors and at numerous other scientific conferences. She has contributed articles to the Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics, Journal of Neuromusculoskeltal System and Alternative Therapies in Health and Medicine and has a chapter in the book “Chiropractic Care of the Older Person”. She was also elected to the board of directors for the Ontario Chiropractic Association in 2007.
Matthew Barrigar, DC, FCCO(C)

Assistant Professor
Dr. Matthew Barrigar is a Clinician and Assistant Professor in the Division of Clinical Education at the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College and has a private practic at Stoney Creek Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation in Stoney Creek, Ontario. He was previously on the anatomy faculty of at Algonquin College and was later a Faculty Coordinator at the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College. After earning an undergraduate degree in Human Biology at the University of Toronto, he completed his Doctor of Chiropractic from the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College in 1988. In 2004, he obtained his Fellowship with the College of Chiropractic Orthopedists (Canada).
Dr. Barrigar teaches CE4405 Clinical Practice Internship at the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College. Previously he has taught CE1101 Clinical Practice, CE3303 Clinical Practice, and CD3408 Child Care at the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College.
Cameron Borody, DC.

Dr. Cameron Borody is currently a Resource Clinician and Assistant Professor in the Department of Clinical Educaiton at the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College. He is also a Chiropractic Consultant for the National ballet of Canada and has his practice at the Sports Medicine Specialist Clinic in Toronto. After earning a undergraduate degree in Science at the University of Winnipeg, he completed a Doctor of Chiropractic Medicine at the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College. He is currently completing a Masters of Medical Education at the University of Dundee in Scotland.
Dr. Borody’s research focuses on sports sciences in chirporactics especailly in the field of golf, bobsleighing and sailing injury prevention and treatment. He has contributed articles to the Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics and Medical Sceince Sports Exercise. He is also a member of the Canadian Chiropractic Association, the Ontario Chiropractic Association, the Canadian College of Chiropractic Sport Sciences and the Acupuncture Council of Ontario. In 2003, he was awarded with th Dr. Lance Blackshaw Scholarship Award, and prior to this, he was awarded with the Robert Kilgannon Memorial Award, and the Chemistry Faculty Scholarship.
Stephen Burnie, BSc (Hon), DC, MSc, C.Ped.
Clinician and Lecturer, Campus Clinic
Dr. Stephen Burnie is a Lecturer and Resource Clinician at the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College’s Campus Walk-In Clinic and practices in a multidisciplinary clinic with family doctors in central Toronto. He is also a Consultant Assessor for the Canadian Rehabilitation Institute in Toronto and a Clinical Research Review Author for Research Review Service in Toronto. After earning a undergraduate degree in Biology and Psychology at McMaster University, he completed his Doctor of Chiropractic at CMCC and his Level 1 Acupuncture Certification from the Acupuncture Foundation of Canada Institute. Last year, he graduated with his Masters of Science in Rehabiliation Sciences at McMaster University and this year he completed his certification in Pedorthist at the Robert M. Palmer Institute of Biomechanics.
Dr. Burnie’s research focuses on neck manipulation and mobilization. As a member of the Cervical Overview Group, an international and interdisciplinary research team examining optimal treatments for mechanical neck disorders, he is a co-ordinator for systematic review projects that aim to provide up to date, evidence based recommendations for chiropractors and other health providers treating neck pain. He has contributed articles to the Human Mutation, Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews and several other academic journals. He is also a member of the Ontario Chiropractic Association, the Canadian Chiropractic Association, and the Acupuncture Foundation of Canada. He is a recipient of many honours and awards including a fellowship from the Foundation for Chiropractic Education and Research, a fellowship from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, CMCC’s Board of Governor’s Chair Award, Dr. Michael Brickman’s Memorial Graduation Award, the Douglas Brown Memorial Graduation Award, the Nicola Tantalo Award for community service, CMCC’s Governor’s Club Corporate Members Award and the University of Toronto’s Life Science Award.
Margaret Butkovic, LT, M.Sc.
Director, Library Services
Margaret Butkovic is the Director of Library Services at the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College. She was previously the Acting Director of the CC Clemmer Health Sciences Library and was later appointed as the Assistant Director of Library Services at the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College. After earning a Diploma in Library Techniques at Seneca College of Science and Technology, she pursued several certificates qualifiying her in multimedia development, new technologies in health sciences education and training, partnership and collaboration, leadership and optimal team performance, internet resources, computers and networks, interactive healthcare and the usage of microcomputing for cataloguing.
In 2007, Ms. Butkovic was awarded with the Distinguish Service Citation Award by the Chamber of Commerce. throughout her years at CMCC, she was awarded many times with the Certificate of Merit. She has also been the Vice Chair of the ACC Librarian Subgroup, Treasurer of the Chiropractic Libraries Consortium, Chair of the Chiropractics Libraries Section of the Medical Libraries Association, and President of the Toronto Health Libraries Association. At CMCC, she serves as a Chair for the Library Committee, and member of the Academic Affairs, Faculty Roles and Compensation Committee, Strategic Planning Committee, Post Graduate and Continuing Education Committee, External Affairs Committee, Division Directors Committee, Homecoming and the Run Committee. She is also the Chair of the CMCC Staff Capital Campaign.
She is a recipient of research funding to develop a Index to Chiropractic Literature from the Association of Chiropractic Colleges (ACC). She has also published an Annotated Bibliography for the Medical Library Association.
Peter Cauwenbergs, DC, PhD
Chair, Anatomy and Biological Sciences
Dr. Peter Cauwenbergs is a scholar of Anatomy and the Biological Sciences at the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College. He was previously a Research Associate at the University of Toronto and was later an Associate Professor of Anatomy at the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College. After earning a undergraduate degree in Zoology from the University of Guelph Ontario and a master’s degree in Anatomy at the University of Toronto, he completed a PhD in Medical Science at McMaster University Health Science Center and a Doctor of Chiropractic Medicine from the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College.
Dr. Cauwenbergs research focuses on embryological basis of anatomical injuries. He has contributed articles to Acta Anatomy, Embryological Experimental Morphology, Experimental Neurology, Development, Spine and and several other academic journals. He is a recipient of research funding through the Chiropractic Foundation for Spinal Research.
Dr. Cauwenbergs teaches Human Anatomy I, Human Anatomy II, Neuroanatomy and Human Anatomy Review. He also a member of the College of Chiropractors of Ontario, Ontario Chiropractic Association, Canadian Chiropractic Association, Society for Neuroscience, Southern Ontario Neuroscience Association, American Association of Clinical Anatomists, and International Association of Medical Science Educators. At CMCC, he serves on the Academic Affairs Committee, the Curriculum Committee, the Faculty Roles and Compensation Committee, Resident’s Selection Committee, Biological Sciences Divisional Promotions Committee, Division Directors Council and the Curriculum Development Working Group.
Kwong Chiu, DC
Coordinator of Clinical Acupuncture Program
Assistant Clinical Professor
Dr. Kwong Chiu is the Coordinator of Clinical Acupuncture Program and an Assistant Clinical Professor at the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College. He was previously Coordinator for the Naturopathic Board Exams in Clinical Acupuncture and was later an Associate Professor at the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine. After earning a undergraduate degree in Science at York University, he completed a Doctor of Chiropractic Medicine from the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College in Toronto.
Dr. Chiu’s research focuses on acupuncture regulation in Ontario. He has contributed articles to the Canadian Chiropractor. He has presented his work for the Society for Acupuncture Research, the Chiropractic College of Ontario and the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care. He currently serves on the Continuing Education Advisory Committee at the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College, as the Chiropractic Representative for the North American Council of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine and President of the Acupuncture Council of Ontario.
Michael Chivers, DC
Assistant Professor, Clinical Diagnosis
Dr. Michael Chivers is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Clinical Education at the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College. He was previously on the medical staff for the North York Rangers Jr. A and was later a Sport Science Resident with the Division of Graduate Studies at the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College. After earning a undergraduate degree in Physical Education at Brock University, he completed a Doctor of Chiropractic at the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College and a Fellowship in Acupuncture at McMaster University.
Dr. Chivers’ research focuses on the causes of groin pain. He has contributed articles to the European Journal of Applied Physiology, the Canadian Journal of Applied Physiology, Dynamic Medicine and other academic journals. He also is a member of the Ontario Chiropractic Association and a certified provider of Active Release Techniques and Graston® Techniques. He has been a recipient of many awards at CMCC and at Brock University.
Michael Ciolfi, DC
Director of Education, Year III
Dr. Michael Ciolfi is the Year III Director of Education at the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College. He has practice experience in both Canada and the United States. His experience in Chiropractic education began at Palmer Chiropractic College (Florida Campus) where he held the following positions; Faculty clinician, Coordinator of Clinical Academics and Assistant Director of Clinics. After earning an Honours Bachelor of Physical Education degree at Lakehead University and a Bachelor of Science in Nutrition degree at Life University, he completed a Doctor of Chiropractic degree at the same institution in 1990.
Dr. Ciolfi’s research focuses on physiological testing for competitive cyclists. He is the recipient of many awards and honours including the 2007 Staff of the Year award from Palmer Chiropractic College, in 2003 the Canadian Decoration (C.D.) military medal and the 1994 Junior Officer of the Year Award from the Lincoln and Welland Regiment. In 2002, he graduated from the Canadian Armed Forces Military Command and Staff College in Kingston Ontario. At Palmer College, he served as Ethics Committee Chair, was a member of the Academic Standing Committee, the Faculty Development Committee and the Learning Outcomes Committee.
Constance Columbus, DC
Clinician, Campus Clinic
Dr. Constance Columbus is currently an Assistant Professor, Chiropractic Radiologist and Tutorial Leader for the Division of Clinical Education at the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College. She is also a Musculoskeletal Anatomy Instructor at the Ontario College of Health and Technology in Stoney Creek and a Independent Chiropractor Evaluator for the Canadian Rehabilitation Services. She was previously a radiology Instructor for the Chiropractic Assistant Program at the Southwestern Medix School and was later a Acting Chair/Radiology Instructor for the Department of Undergraduate Radiology at the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College. After earning a undergraduate degree in Biology at the University of Western Ontario, she completed a Doctor of Chiropractics from the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College.
Dr. Columbus’s research focuses on imaging modalities for the lumbar spine. She has contributed articles to the Canadian Journal of Chiropractic Association, Topics in Clinical Chiropractics and other academic journals. She was also the Secretary-Treasurer of the Canadian Chiropractic College of Radiologists, and a Liaison of the American Chiropractic Board of Radiology. She sits on the Library Committee and the Committee to report the Effectiveness of the RHPA at CMCC. Dr. Columbus’s teaching includes supervising interns in the Clinical Internship and Clinical Education courses.
Allan Crooks
Course Coordinator, Radiology
Mr. Allan Crooks is a Course Coordinator of Radiology at the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College. He was previously on the faculty at CDI College and was later Lecturer of Physics of Echocardiology at the York College of Industry and Technology. After earning a Certificate in Radiological technology from the Ontario Society of Radiological Technologists, he obtained a Certificate of Continuing Education in Ultrasound Equipment Operation in Medical Diagnosis in Cleveland Ohio.
Over the past 20 years, Mr. Crooks has supervised numerous students with radiology and jurispudence assignments. From 2000 to 2007, he was awarded with the William D. Peek Award for Excellence in Teaching from the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College.
Phillip Decina, DC
Assistant Professor, Sherbourne Health Center
Dr. Philip Decina is an Assistant Professor and Clinical Supervisor at the Sherbourne Health Center Chiropractic Clinic which is part of the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College. He was previously Assistant Clinical Professor for the Herbert K. Lee Clinic at the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College and was later a Med/Rehab and Disability DAC Assessorwith the Rehabilitation Clinic’s (TRC) Assessment Center, a Division of CMCC. In 1989, Dr. Decina completed his Doctor of Chiropractics from the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College and then completed a fellowship at the Canadian College of Chiropractic Sciences.
Dr. Decina’s research focuses on the effect of HIV/AIDS and poverty on ill patients. In 2003, he was funded for research on complementary and alternative medicine for the treatment of HIV by the Ontario HIV Treatment Network. He has contributed articles to the Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics, Canadian Chiropractor and other academic journals. He was a member pf the examining board for the College of Chiropractic Sciences (Canada) and a member of the Interviewing Team for the CMCC Admissions Department. He is currently on the Sherbourne Health Science Center Chiropractic Clinic Intern Selection Committee. He is recipeint of the Platform Presentation Award by the Conference on Research and Educaiton and has been awarded by the Canadian Foundation for Spinal Research for the First Award for the Student Research Program.
