Resources and Services

Book Collection
CMCC’s circulating collection, reference works, reserves and the special collection are all housed on the main floor of the library. Books are accessible through our in-house online library catalogue (on campus). Students and CMCC members may access this catalogue through the My CMCC section of the CMCC website.

Journals
Current issues are shelved alphabetically by title in the main reading room. Back volumes are also shelved alphabetically by title in the stack area.

Archives

CMCC Archives preserve the history of CMCC and of chiropractic. They hold a wealth of information relevant to the history and development of both CMCC and of chiropractic throughout Canada and North America. CMCC Archives is responsible for acquiring, appraising, and preserving historical materials in all media formats, from various sources. This includes CMCC records of permanent value and the private records of individuals and organizations associated with the college. CMCC Archives retains records, original documents, correspondence, special media items and some physical objects for their research and historical value. The archives currently houses nearly 150 linear meters of processed archival materials with nearly 100 finding aids to guide the researcher through the historical material.

Electronic Resources
Students and faculty can link to bibliographic databases for searching the chiropractic, biomedical and education literature. They have unlimited access to a number of subscription databases, including several from  EBSCO Publishing, the databases of the Cochrane Library, and the Natural Standard databases (including  herbs and natural product treatment options). CMCC subscribes to hundreds of journals online, and also provides links to key online resources in health and medicine. (See the Research Roadmap, Journals Online and Practice Guidelines.)

Multimedia Resources
Multimedia Resources include, DVDs, CD-ROMs, VHS videos, slides, audiotapes are housed on the main floor and accessible through the online catalogue (OPAC).
 
Library Computers
Library computers are located on the main floor of the CMCC Health Sciences Library, and are accessible during library hours. Currently there are 27 workstations in the Reference area and 10 in the Computer Training Lab with access to printers. Computer login requires Novell passwords, which are available to CMCC students, faculty and staff. Print cards may be purchased at the CMCC Bookstore or in the library after 5:30 pm week days and on weekends. Hardware problems or issues related to installed software should be directed to Information Technology (e-mail helpdesk@cmcc.ca). Concerns related to accessing electronic resources should be directed to the Collection Development Librarian at 416 482 2340 ext. 206.

Media Services
The Media Services department is located on the third floor in Room 327, and is open Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. We provide faculty, students and CMCC community with their multimedia productions and presentation requirements. We offer a variety of digital services including photography, scanning and printing, video shooting and editing, presentation design, equipment loans and troubleshooting. We also offer support and training for all media equipment within CMCC. Please note that we strictly observe copyright laws and will not reproduce materials of any sort without express permission of the copyright holder.

Media Services operates on a cost-recovery basis for our students and faculty. We serve our external clients at a standard production rate of $40 per hour. Library Instruction
Library orientation is conducted at the beginning of the academic year and on request by individuals and groups.

Reference and Information Services
Available from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday to Friday, Reference and Information Services include information retrieval, and user training on bibliographic databases and other online resources.
